French 2 / Unit 7: Travel and Shopping
7.5 Prices in Euros
Notes
France uses the euro (€). Prices are written with a comma for cents and the euro sign after the number.
- 20 € = vingt euros. 15,50 € = quinze euros cinquante. 3,99 € = trois euros quatre-vingt-dix-neuf.
- Ask: Combien coûte...? / Ça coûte combien? / C'est combien?
- Answer: Ça coûte douze euros. / Ça fait dix euros. / Le pull coûte 45 €.
- Add up costs with ça fait (that makes): Un livre à 12 € et un stylo à 3 €, ça fait 15 €.
- Say trop cher (too expensive), pas cher, bon marché (cheap), en solde (on sale).
- Example: Cette veste coûte cent vingt euros. Elle est trop chère!
