Health / Unit 4: Mental and Emotional Health
4.5 Resilience and Self-Esteem
Notes
Resilience is the ability to adapt and recover from difficulties. Self-esteem is how you value and feel about yourself.
- Resilience can be built. Helpful habits: supportive relationships, problem solving, realistic optimism, healthy routines and learning from mistakes.
- Think of mistakes as feedback: "I did not do well on this quiz, so what will I change?"
- Build self-esteem by noticing strengths, setting goals, helping others and speaking kindly to yourself.
- Comparing yourself with others, especially on social media, can lower self-esteem. Posts often show only highlights.
- Having a sense of purpose, such as a hobby or volunteering, boosts well-being.
- Gratitude (noticing good things) can improve mood.
