AP Chemistry / Unit 3: Properties of Substances and Mixtures
3.7 Solutions and Mixtures
Notes
A solution is a homogeneous mixture.
- Molarity: $\displaystyle M=\frac{\text{mol solute}}{\text{L solution}}$.
- Dilution: $M_1V_1=M_2V_2$.
Practice
0.5 mol NaCl in 250 mL of solution. Molarity:
$0.5\div0.25$.
Dilute 100 mL of 3 M HCl to 300 mL. New concentration:
$3(100)=M_2(300)$.
Which is a solution?
Homogeneous.
