AP Physics 1 / Unit 5: Torque and Rotational Dynamics
5.2 Connecting Linear and Rotational Motion
Notes
For a point at radius $r$: $s=r\theta$, $v=r\omega$, $a_t=r\alpha$.
- All points on a rigid object have the same $\omega$ but different $v$.
Practice
On a merry-go-round, a child at the edge compared with one near the center has:
$v=r\omega$.
$r=0.5$ m, $\omega=4$ rad/s. $v=$
$0.5\times4$.
A wheel of radius 0.3 m turns 10 rad. The distance a point on the rim travels:
$s=r\theta$.
