8.2 Pressure
Notes
$$P=\frac{F}{A},\qquad P=P_0+\rho gh$$
- Pressure in a fluid increases with depth.
- Unit: pascal (Pa) = N/m². Atmospheric pressure ≈ $1.01\times10^5$ Pa.
Practice
100 N on 0.5 m². Pressure:
$\displaystyle \frac{100}{0.5}$.
Gauge pressure 10 m under water ($\rho=1000$, $g=10$):
$\rho gh$.
Snowshoes keep you from sinking because they:
Lower pressure.
