AP Psychology / Unit 3: Development and Learning
3.7 Classical Conditioning
Notes
Learning by association (Pavlov):
- Neutral stimulus + unconditioned stimulus (US) → unconditioned response (UR).
- After pairing, the neutral stimulus becomes a conditioned stimulus (CS) causing a conditioned response (CR).
- Extinction, spontaneous recovery, generalization, discrimination.
Practice
In Pavlov's study, the bell (after training) is the:
Learned trigger.
A dog salivates to similar-sounding bells. This is:
Similar stimuli trigger the response.
After extinction, the response briefly returns. This is:
Reappearance after a pause.
