Many common verbs have irregular participles that must be memorized.

- Verbs built on a base share its participle: apprendre → appris, comprendre → compris, permettre → permis, offrir → offert.
- Example: Nous avons fait un gâteau. Il a pris le bus. J'ai vu mes amis.
