French 2 / Unit 2: The Passé Composé with Avoir
2.4 Questions and Adverbs in the Passé Composé
Notes
Make questions with est-ce que or by inversion of the auxiliary and subject.
- Est-ce que tu as fini? / As-tu fini? / Tu as fini? (rising voice).
- With question words: Qu'est-ce que tu as mangé? Où as-tu mangé? Pourquoi a-t-il répondu? (add -t- between two vowels).
- Short adverbs go between the auxiliary and the participle: J'ai déjà mangé. Elle a bien dormi. Nous avons beaucoup travaillé. Il a trop parlé.
- Longer or time adverbs (hier, aujourd'hui, ce matin) go at the start or end: Hier, j'ai travaillé.
Practice

Short adverbs like déjà sit between avoir and the participle.
Which is a correct inverted question?
