Practice reading a short story and identifying the reason for each tense.
- Example: "Hier, il pleuvait. Je suis allé à la bibliothèque. Je cherchais un livre quand j'ai vu mon ami Marc. Il était triste parce qu'il cherchait son sac."
- "il pleuvait", "je cherchais", "il était", "il cherchait" give background or ongoing actions.
- "je suis allé", "j'ai vu" are completed events.
- When writing, ask: scene or event? Habit or one time?

Read: "Samedi, il faisait beau. Léa est allée au parc. Elle jouait avec son chien quand elle a trouvé un portefeuille." What was Léa doing when she found a wallet?
Elle jouait avec son chien is the ongoing action.
In "Il faisait beau", why is the imparfait used?
