Health / Unit 7: Disease Prevention
7.6 Screenings and Taking Charge of Your Health
Notes
Screening tests look for health problems before symptoms begin.
- Regular checkups track growth, vision, hearing, blood pressure and mental health, and update vaccines.
- Dental visits twice a year help prevent cavities and gum disease.
- Early detection often makes treatment easier and more successful.
- Know your family health history and share it with your doctor.
- Take medicines as directed and do not share prescriptions.
- Learn warning signs that need a doctor: high fever, trouble breathing, a mole that changes, long-lasting pain, or sudden weakness.
- You can ask questions, and you are allowed to speak up about your own health with a doctor or nurse.
