2.1 Preterite of -ar Verbs
Notes
The preterite tells about actions that were completed in the past. For -ar verbs drop -ar and add these endings.

| ellos / ellas / ustedes | hablaron |
- The yo and él / ella forms need a written accent (hablé, habló).
- Example: Ayer caminé al parque y mi amigo cantó.
Practice
Ayer yo ___ (hablar) con mi profesora.
The yo preterite ending for -ar verbs is -é.
Ustedes ___ (caminar) al parque el sábado.
Ustedes takes the same ending as ellos: -aron.
Mi mamá ___ (cocinar) la cena anoche.
Mi mamá is third person singular, so the ending is -ó.
