Spanish 2 / Unit 9: The Future and Conditional
9.4 The Conditional: Forms
Notes
The conditional is formed with the whole infinitive + -ía, -ías, -ía, -íamos, -ían. It means "would".
| Subject | hablar | comer |
|---|---|---|
| yo | hablaría | comería |
| tú | hablarías | comerías |
| él / ella | hablaría | comería |
| nosotros | hablaríamos | comeríamos |
| ellos | hablarían | comerían |
- Irregular verbs use the same stems as the future: tendría, podría, haría, diría, saldría, vendría, querría.
- Example: Yo viajaría a Chile si tuviera dinero.
Practice
Yo ___ (viajar) a Chile con más tiempo.
Conditional: infinitive + -ía.
¿Qué ___ (hacer) tú en mi lugar?
Hacer has the stem har- and tú takes -ías.
Ellos ___ (querer) ir, pero no tienen dinero.
