AP Chemistry / Unit 7: Equilibrium
7.2 Direction of Reversible Reactions
Notes
A reversible reaction runs in whichever direction moves it toward equilibrium. Rates change as concentrations change until they match.
Practice
Starting with only products, the reverse rate is initially:
Plenty of products to react.
As a reaction approaches equilibrium from reactants, the forward rate:
Reactants are used up.
The double arrow $\rightleftharpoons$ means:
Both directions.
