AP Physics 1 / Unit 7: Oscillations
7.2 Frequency and Period of SHM
Notes
$$T_s=2\pi\sqrt{\frac{m}{k}},\qquad T_p=2\pi\sqrt{\frac{L}{g}},\qquad f=\frac{1}{T}$$
- Period doesn't depend on amplitude.
Practice
Quadrupling the mass on a spring makes the period:
$\displaystyle \sqrt4=2$.
A pendulum's period depends on:
$\displaystyle 2\pi\sqrt{L/g}$.
$T=0.5$ s. Frequency:
$\displaystyle \frac{1}{T}$.
