AP Physics 1 / Unit 7: Oscillations
7.3 Representing and Analyzing SHM
Notes
Position in SHM: $x(t)=A\cos(2\pi ft)$ (or sine).
- Amplitude $A$: maximum displacement.
- Velocity is out of phase with position: zero at the ends, maximum at the middle.
Practice
$x(t)=0.2\cos(4\pi t)$. The amplitude:
The coefficient.
For $x(t)=0.2\cos(4\pi t)$, the frequency:
$2\pi f=4\pi$.
When position is at a maximum, velocity is:
Turning point.
