AP Precalculus / Unit 2: Exponential and Logarithmic Functions
2.2 Change in Linear and Exponential Functions
Notes
- Linear functions change by equal differences over equal input intervals (additive).
- Exponential functions change by equal ratios over equal input intervals (multiplicative).
Practice
$x$: 0,1,2,3; $y$: 3, 6, 12, 24. The function is:
Each output doubles.
Over equal input intervals, an exponential function's outputs:
Constant ratios.
$f(0)=10$, $f(1)=15$, linear. Then $f(3)=$
Adds 5 each step.
