English 12 / Unit 8: College and Career Writing
8.3 Résumés
Notes
A résumé is a short document that shows your experience and skills for a job, internship or program.
- Usually one page for students. Put contact information at the top.
- Common sections: education, experience, activities, skills, awards. Use reverse chronological order (most recent first).
- Start bullets with strong action verbs (organized, led, tutored, designed) and include numbers when possible: "Organized a food drive that collected 850 cans."
- Use parallel structure and consistent formatting. Do not use "I."
- Be accurate. Never exaggerate.
