Spanish 2 / Unit 10: Introduction to the Subjunctive and Culture
10.1 What Is the Subjunctive?
Notes
Tenses like the present and preterite are part of the indicative mood, which states facts. The subjunctive mood is used for wishes, recommendations, doubts and feelings.
- It usually appears in a sentence with two parts joined by que: Quiero que vengas. (I want you to come.)
- The two parts have different subjects: yo quiero, tú vienes.
- With the same subject, use an infinitive instead: Quiero venir.
- Example: Mi madre quiere que yo estudie.
