Notes

Regular and irregular present tense

  • Regular verbs drop -ar, -er or -ir and add endings: hablo, hablas, habla, hablamos, hablan; como, comes, come, comemos, comen; vivo, vives, vive, vivimos, viven.
  • Many verbs have an irregular yo form: hago, pongo, salgo, traigo, conozco, sé, veo, doy.
  • Fully irregular verbs: ser, ir, estar, tener, venir. Use saber for facts and conocer for people and places.

Stem-changing verbs

  • Stem changes (e → ie, o → ue, e → i, u → ue) happen in every form except nosotros: quiero, queremos; duermo, dormimos; pido, pedimos; juego, jugamos.

Reflexive verbs and daily routine

  • Reflexive pronouns: me, te, se, nos, se, placed before the conjugated verb or attached to an infinitive (voy a ducharme).
  • Use el / la / los / las with body parts: Me lavo las manos.
  • Sequence words: primero, luego, después, más tarde, por último.
