Notes
Completely irregular and stem-irregular verbs
- Ser / ir: fui, fuiste, fue, fuimos, fueron. Dar / ver: di, diste, dio, dimos, dieron; vi, viste, vio, vimos, vieron.
- Irregular stems take -e, -iste, -o, -imos, -ieron with no accents: estuv-, tuv-, pud-, pus-, sup-, hic- (hizo), quis-, vin-.
- J-stems (dij-, traj-, conduj-) use -eron in the ellos form: dijeron, trajeron.
Stem-changing -ir verbs
- In the él and ellos forms: e → i (pidió, pidieron) and o → u (durmió, durmieron). Yo, tú and nosotros do not change.
Tips
- Fue and fueron can be ser or ir; the rest of the sentence tells you which (fue a la tienda vs fue interesante).
- One-syllable forms never have a written accent: fui, fue, di, dio, vi, vio.
